Types of Headlights

Vehicles come with different types of headlights to suit various needs and budgets. The three main types currently on the market are LED, HID (Xenon), and halogen headlights.

LED

Light-emitting diodes, or LEDs for short, are relatively new. They are able to convert most of the electrical energy supplied into light energy, making them more efficient than other types of headlights. While you might be saving on energy and preserving the lifespan of your vehicle's battery, LEDs usually come with a higher price tag.

HID

Also known as Xenon headlights, High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights are long-lasting and energy efficient. They can be extremely bright as well - up to three times as bright as the standard halogen bulbs. As with LEDs, HID headlights come at a higher cost. But that hasn't stopped car manufacturers from increasingly shifting to HID bulbs in recent years.

Halogen

Halogen headlights are the most common type and have been the industry standard for decades. While not as energy efficient nor as bright as HID bulbs and LEDs, they more than makeup for it with their low cost and relatively long lifespan. Energy-saving halogen bulbs have also come onto the market to offer car manufacturers and drivers a more efficient option for this already popular choice.
