About Radiators
As an important part of your vehicle's engine, the radiator prevents the entire vehicle from overheating. An out-of-commission radiator can cause severe damage to your engine, so be sure to replace it once you realize it’s having problems.
The engine’s radiator works by cooling down the coolant, which has received heat from the engine, by passing the fluid through metal fins that transmit heat to the air outside. Occasionally, a fan might come fitted to hasten this process. Common radiator troubles stem from physical damage to the radiator, although this might also be caused by coolant-related issues such as using expired coolant or low coolant levels. Damage can then arise at any of the four components: the core, pressure cap, outlet and inlet tanks, or transmission cooler, requiring either a change of individual parts, or the whole radiator itself.
To lower the possibility of damage to your engine, ensure that you drain, flush and refill the cooling system with coolant at regular intervals.
